Biography Born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1971, Taylor's early years were shaped by the expansive desert landscape that continues to inform his artistic vision. At the age of 12, his family relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he attended public schools and developed a growing interest in visual art. This passion led him, at 17, to apply and be accepted into the competitive visual arts program at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem—marking the beginning of his lifelong dedication to art. Taylor’s artistic focus has always centered on drawing and painting, complemented by a deep engagement with art history and museum culture. As a youth, he was a frequent visitor to libraries, where he immersed himself in artists' biographies and studied the evolution of art movements, museum collections, and the critical frameworks that shape public perception of art. He went on to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design, pursuing a double major in Painting and Video. During this time, Taylor began working as a preparator at the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia—an experience that further cemented his connection to institutional art spaces. Seeking to deepen his practice, he later earned a Master of Arts degree from Rutgers University, where he also worked at the Zimmerli Art Museum in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After moving to Jersey City, Taylor became immersed in the contemporary art scene of nearby New York City. He worked as head preparator for several prominent galleries in Chelsea and held a position at the Jersey City Museum. His expertise in exhibition design and collections care led to a long-term role at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, where he served as Registrar, Collections Manager, and Preparator. During this time, he was also represented by V & A Gallery in Manhattan. In 2010, Taylor relocated to Los Angeles to refocus on painting and embark on a new chapter in his career. There, he owned and operated a contemporary art gallery in Culver City while continuing his museum work at institutions such as the Southwest Museum of Indian Art, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, The Norton Simon Museum, Los Angeles Public Library Exhibitions and the Skirball Cultural Center. Today, Taylor lives and works in Los Angeles, where he maintains an active painting practice. He currently works as a Lighting Technician and Preparator at the Getty Center Museum, continuing his long-standing engagement with art.
